Cryolipo, Lipo-Cryo, Lipocryolysis, Cryolipolysis, are all names for a new procedure to reduce localized fat deposits with exposure to cold.

It has been known for a long time (1966) that prolonged exposure to cold on fat pads can lead to a reduction of fatty tissue (see literature references).

The idea of using this fact to reduce localized fat pads by exposure to cold was clinically researched by American doctors. An American company then developed the first device for clinical use.
